Nursing practice encompasses provision of promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative aspects of care to people across their life span in a variety of health care settings. Practice of nursing is based upon application of basic concepts and principles derived from the physical, biological and behavioural sciences, medicine and nursing.Nursing education fosters holistic development, preparing students as competent professionals committed to the dignity of the nursing profession.
The program is committed to educational excellence through innovative, student-centered learning; advancing nursing science through research and scholarship; and preparing competent, ethical nurse leaders through rigorous clinical training. It emphasizes community and global health engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, lifelong learning, and policy advocacy to improve healthcare outcomes, address health disparities, and deliver holistic, patient-centered care.

The College of Nursing, in keeping with the vision of the institution, strives to offer education of the highest grade in the art and science of Nursing, thus equipping men and women for service towards relief of suffering and promotion of health.
The primary concern of the INE, SME Kanjirappally is to develop through education and training, compassionate, professionally competent, ethically sound nurses who will go out as servant leaders of health teams and healing communities in promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative, or palliative aspects of health care.
The School of Medical Education, a self financing college, previously run directly by Mahatma Gandhi University till 2016, came into existence in 1993 with an aim of providing trained human resources in the area of allied medical and health sciences. Now this institution is under the control of Centre for Professional and Advanced Studies (CPAS), a Society established by Government of Kerala.
